Fired Up, and Ready to Go!

If you are a political junkie like me, then you have inevitably seen Barack Obama talk about the first time he made the trip to lovely Greenwood, SC, very early in his presidential bid. He talks about how Greenwood is an hour and a half from everything (very true - isn't that right Jenny??? :) ), but he had promised a state representative that he would travel to the small town if they would give him their endorsement. He woke up in Greenville, and it was raining and dreary. He finally arrives in Greenwood after the long car trip, and there are about 20 people there to greet him - certainly not the crowd he was hoping for. During the rally, he turns and catches the eye of a Greenwood City Councilwoman named Edith Childs. She tells him to get fired up! And, ready to go! And, he says that all of a sudden, he was starting to feel fired up and ready to go! I saw this same speech first in person during Obama's trip to Lander University, and most recently this weekend in Montana. The message he gives is that one person can change a room, and if one person can change a room, they can change a city, and a state and eventually, one man can change the country. Google "fired up and ready to go" and you'll see plenty of footage of the speech. It's extremely cool that I have this connection to Greenwood this year, and I'm certain that Edith will be dancing at the inaugural balls in January.
